Form what I read in news paper;
please add to this if I have incomplete info.
Every year Pune roads required Rs. 8 crore for
Now we all know that its boom time in pune. It means
there is more money paid in taxes than what used to
So where did all the money go. That road money has
vanished or what, Over that now Pune is allocating 200
crores for roads, is this how they are gona use excess
money from boom in taxpayers ?
For the past ten years there was no such degradation
of roads, so why now ? is this all done to allocate
more money on roads, I smell conspiracy.
I believe India is getting actual freedom after 60
years, courtesy - guess what : Right To Information.

Yesterday was Dasara which is called Vijayadashami too. This means Victory over devilish things as on this day you may be knowing, Shri Ram had killed Ravan, the monster.
Apart from this, on this day "Simollanghan" too is done, i.e. coming home by crossing boundaries of town......may be it has relation with Pandawas...I dont remember exact story behind it. These days, it is not observed seriously esp. when boundaries of city are expanding. However, some ppl. go out to nearby places, exchange Apte pane as symbol of gold. (Actually, yellow gold prices were 7k for 10kg.at renouned shops in Pune).
Then Dasara is counted auspicious that it is complete one day amongst three and half (sadetin muhurat)days which are supposed to be most auspicious in Hindus to do important things. So, ppl. do bhumipujan, vastushant, entry in new house or new purchases etc. on this day. New clothes, ornaments are purhcased or even start of any new venture is considered. Kids are enrolled at schools first time with their first slate.
First auspicious day in the yr.is Gudipadwa which is in Chaitra (Marathi month) i.e.April, second day is Akshay Trutiya and third being Dasara (called somewhere as Dashahara too as it is 10th day of putting hara means flower mala on Godess Durga)and half day (actual full day but counted as half muhurat) is Diwali Balipratipada means Padwa.
Well, any correction and addl. info. in comment section is smilingly welcomed.

An article on Page 2 of the TOI claimed that around 17500 trucks pass through Pune in a day. This truck traffic increases pollution, accidents and congestion. How do we solve this problem, simple build a bypass. Building (From idea to reality) a bypass takes a good decade or more. So what can we do till then.
1) Charge a toll Rs 50 per truck traveling through the city.
2) Trucks can move through the city limits only during 9 pm and 8 am.
3) If trucks want to travel during any other time charge a toll of Rs 100.
This will result in increase in revenue for the PMC and of course for the corrupt officials (i.e. officials who will take Rs. 20 from the driver and allow him to go through).
Let us say 30% bribe the corrupt official, 40% wait for the 9 pm and 8 am deadline and the other 30% have to pass during the day.
5,250 * 20 = 105,000 goes to corrupt official
5,250 * 100 = 525,000
7,000 * 50 = 350,000
So that’s almost Rs 875,000 per day for PMC

A plan developed by the Bush administration to deal with any possible outbreak of pandemic flu has concluded that the United States is woefully unprepared for what could become the worst disaster in the nation's history.
A draft of the final plan, which has been years in the making and is expected to be released this month, says that a large outbreak that began in Asia would, because of modern travel patterns, likely reach the United States within "a few months or even weeks."
If such an outbreak occurred, hospitals would become overwhelmed, riots would engulf vaccination clinics, and even power and food would be in short supply, the plan says.
The plan outlines a worst-case sequence of events in which more than 1.9 million Americans would die and nearly 9 million would be hospitalized.
For more information read here and here.
The Times of India, Pune dated 10th Oct. 2005 has reported that already 60 people have died in SouthEast Asia and yesterday one person died in Turkey, Europe.
What about Pune? India? Are we prepared? Are we at all aware of this?

A couple of days ago the TOI had a report which stated that BSNL’s plans to Wi-Fi enable Pune Airport had run into some trouble because of the Airport authorities demanding rent from BSNL to install the Wi-Fi equipment. BSNL was supposed to provide the service for free
Today the TOI reports that Pune Airport has be Wi-Fi enabled.
It is a 256 kbps hub which supports 20 simultaneous connections at optimum speed. It is not free Rs 35 for half an hour pack and if you frequent Pune Airport you can get an 18 hour pack for Rs 500. This has been installed by a company called Microsense.

A new traffic signal was setup on Monday where Nagar road meet the Kharadi bypass. On Monday evening the signal was working and there were traffic police stationed who made the people aware of the new traffic signal in place. It took a couple of minutes to cross the signal.
Yesterday (Tuesday) evening neither were the traffic police present and nor was the Signal working. It took me 15+ minutes to cross the signal

For the past couple of weeks we have been hearing about Mantra Shopping Mall on Radio Mirchi, we have seen advertisements in the Pune Times and we have seen billboards.
Yesterday I decided to go there. I was expecting something the size of Shoppers Stop/Pyramids/Vishal Mega mart what I got was something twice the size of a Food World. I would not go there a second time; it was a waste of time and energy.
